In the month of June, U.S. sales of Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Nintendo Wii reach 548,000 units (according to the NPD Group). This brings the game’s cumulative nationwide sales to more than 1.1 million units sold.
To add to Nintendo’s gross sale amounts, they sold a combined 933,000 units, accounting for 50 percent of all gaming hardware units sold in the United States.
The Nintendo DS topped the charts with more than 510,000 units sold, bringing the life-to-date amount to almost 42 million. Nintendo Wii system sales totaled more than 422,000 units, passing the 30 million sold milestone.
Six of the top 10 best-selling games of June found their homes on the Nintendo systems. With Super Mario Galaxy 2 coming in second, New Super Mario Bros. coming in 4th, Just Dance coming in 5th, Toy Story 3 in 6th, Wii Fit Plus in 7th, and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 coming in 9th.
Bottom line, while the Wii may collect dust for a lot of consumers, they are still dominating the charts.
