Nintendo wants to create a 3D home console in the future. President Satoru Iwata has just recently expressed his interest in it but says that 3DTVs are not quite mainstream enough to make a new console that would take advantage of 3D.
“Unfortunately, considering the current penetration rate of 3D television sets in ordinary households, we don’t think that there’s much reality in creating a new hardware system that would support 3D visuals as a home console,” Iwata recently voiced at an investor’s meeting.
This isn’t exactly surprising of course since Nintendo’s strategy has always been about differentiation while at the same time making its consoles a low cost alternative to the others out there. It wouldn’t surprise me if it did happen but Nintendo is always very secretive about what it creates.
